An efficient, modern approach.

Nyman IP is a technology-forward law firm bridging the gap between innovation and protection. Founded by an electrical and computer engineer, Nyman IP leverages today’s technological advances to practice with efficiency well beyond the outdated, traditional legal model. Nyman IP’s modern approach enables high-quality legal representation with exceptional access to information at prices more reasonable than possible under the decades-old inefficiencies common with the legal industry today. In most cases, Nyman IP prices legal services using a competitive fixed-rate flat fee model, not an uncertain and open-ended collection of hours.

Protect what drives your start-up.

Successful businesses are built on solutions. We at Nyman IP love working with creative minds, inventors, and entrepreneurs that are developing the next big platform, solving tomorrow's challenges, and pushing our collective drive to innovate forward. Wherever you are on the path to building your business, we can support you. From the start, we help with protecting your invention, building your brand, and growing your team. As your business grows, we help ensure the structure exists to secure investors, develop important business relationships, and bring your hard work to market.

In house counsel, on demand.

Nyman IP's resources scale to your business needs, essentially becoming your in house counsel, on demand. From the outset, Nyman IP works with innovators to establish preliminary opinions as to whether a proposed invention, brand, or another development is worth pursuit. Nyman IP provides these services via efficient search tools and professionals capable of parsing patent, trademark, copyright, domain, and other intellectual property databases using proprietary and user-directed search techniques. Nyman IP also assists clients with building an intellectual property portfolio of carefully drafted and professionally examined patent, trademark, and copyright applications. Nyman IP works with its clients to develop an intellectual property strategy, intelligently building a portfolio of assets protecting the ingenuity, branding, and artistic creativity of today’s leading minds.

We communicate like people.

Wherever possible and practical, Nyman IP eliminates the undesirable jargon that has long isolated the public from the legal world. Instead, Nyman IP uses an accessible, plain-language approach to enhance understanding between not only clients and their attorney, but also between intellectual property innovators and the examiners, judges, and juries tasked with governing and enforcing their IP rights. Clear and concise language produces highly accessible patent, trademark, and other IP assets. Our approach promotes greater efficiency at virtually every step, from application to enforcement.

Scott Nyman

Registered patent attorney - Founding member of Nyman IP

Scott Nyman started Nyman IP as a registered patent attorney that understands the need for efficiency in evaluating and protecting intellectual property. With a degree in electrical and computer engineering from The Ohio State University, where he specialized in digital hardware design, power systems, semiconductors, and microprocessor architecture, Scott competently works at a high level with pioneers of today's digital society. Scott works with inventors seeking patent protection in many technologies, including semiconductors, energy transformation, software and related systems, power generation, digital devices, communications, artificial intelligence, and network technologies. Scott also works closely with start-up and established businesses to secure the branding they worked so hard to build.

Throughout his career, Scott witnessed the manual nature in which intellectual property services are performed by professionals unfamiliar with application programming and updatable databases. With a firm understanding of task automation, network-leveraged computing platforms, and the changing needs of inventors and other entrepreneurs, Scott Nyman and Nyman IP bring managing an intellectual property portfolio up to speed with the technology it protects.

Nyman IP knowledge  base

Nyman IP proudly shares information and resources with its clients, prospective clients, and others wishing to learn more about intellectual property. Nyman IP provides a selection of free online guides and articles to the public, furthering its goal to educate inventors and entrepreneurs about the benefits provided by patent, trademark, copyright, and other intellectual property protection. You can view the online guides at:

The links and articles included in this guide are provided to assist an inventor with ultimately filing a nonprovisional utility patent application. The guide specifies the required parts of the utility patent application and identifies forms that may be used by an applicant, which are available on the USPTO website. This information is generally derived from patent laws and regulations found in Title 35 of the United States Code (U.S.C.) and Title 37 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR).

The links and articles included in this guide are provided to help a trademark owner with ultimately filing a federal trademark application. This information is generally derived from trademark laws and regulations found in the Lanham Act, Title 15 of the United States Code (U.S.C.), and Title 37 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). These materials, as well as the Trademark Manual of Examining Procedure (TMEP), are available at the USPTO website, at the Patent and Trademark Resource Centers (PTRCs), and at most law libraries.

The trademark registration process is generally divided into smaller stages that create a basic timeline from conception to registration. Not all the steps in the trademark timeline may be required by every applicant, and timeline for a trademark application may differ as it undergoes examination by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

We offer two pricing options for trademark application and examination, each of which are outlined in more detail in the guides provided below.

IP Pass is offered exclusively by Nyman IP to increase accessibility to trademark protection to growing businesses. Through IP Pass, clients pay a set monthly subscription rate and rest assured that most events in an ongoing trademark examination will be taken care of without any additional legal fees required. IP Pass offers predictability in legal costs, which we found can be invaluable for start-ups and existing clients setting a predictable budget for their business. For more information, please view our IP Pass trademark subscription pricing guide here.

Nyman IP provides a pay-as-you-go option that more closely tailors to the unique events of your trademark application and examination. While we still use a flat rate pricing model under the pay-as-you-go option, the total start-to-finish cost of a trademark application can vary based on the positions taken by the USPTO and requirements to comply with those positions. For more information, please view our pay-as-you-go trademark pricing guide here.

Additionally, Nyman IP provides the following information to answer common questions we received about how we operate and what to expect throughout your experience with Nyman IP, from consultations to ongoing representation.
